Successful Article Marketing Means Finding The Right Niche

The biggest mistake that I have made in bum marketing has been trying taking a product and trying to force the niche to match. I think this is a common mistake that many beginning affiliate marketers make and I hope this hub can help you stop making this mistake.

There are 4 Main Points to finding the right niche.

  1. Place people with products.
  2. Find a hungry market first.
  3. Apply six factors to see if the market will buy our product.
  4. Once we find the hungry market, then we find the product.

I will get to the six factors a little later.

6 Factors to Check and See if People Will Buy Your Product

Once you believe that you have found a niche, you will want to look at 6 factors to see if people will buy your product.

  1. Think about how many times a day the average person thinks about the problem you are trying to help them solve.
  2. Are people emotional about their problem?
  3. Are people talking about their problem? Search Google for forums about your niche and see what people are talking about there.
  4. What is the cost of entry for this niche? If people are spending money already then they may be willing to spend more.
  5. Find out if people are spending money to advertise to your niche by checking PPC ads.
  6. Play devil's advocate and think about why someone wouldn't buy your product.

The Best Way to Find a Niche is With Your Head

These ideas can be used by Hubbers to get out of their writer's block funk as well. I know I haven't been hubbing for long, but I have been building lenses at Squidoo for almost 3 years now. My best lenses were thought up on a whim and made when I couldn't find enough information about something. The same school of thought can be used for building Hubs as well.

Where can you find a hungry market?

One way to find a hungry market is to look at what products are already being made for that market. I would check the Amazon bestseller lists, Yahoo shopping, eBay pulse, Google Trends, and the top 100 on Hubpages for ideas to start with. If you exhaust all of these ideas, then you are well on your way to becoming an expert bum marketer.

Is Bum Marketing Still Relevant?

I wrote this hub a long time ago, long before the "Panda" update that Google implemented in February 2011 and many people have been asking if the Bum Marketing technique is still relevant.

As it used to be, absolutely not. You can no longer slap out 10 articles stating the same thing with different words and think you are going to get a ton of traffic for them. Instead, think of quality over quantity and you should be just fine. Also, try to start migrating your content to your own sites as soon as you can. Hosting doesn't cost a ton of money and you will be amazed at everything you will learn.
